Trash / Recycling

Weatherly Borough’s garbage hauler is Tamaqua Transfer.

Borough trash pick-up is every Monday morning. Trash should be placed at the curb no earlier than Sunday evening so as not to be missed by an early morning pick-up by the hauler. A 6 bag limit per week (trash not in bags will not be picked up by hauler) and 1 bulk item per month.

Calls for missed pick-ups should be directed to the Weatherly Borough office at 570-427-8640. Customer service complaints about the trash hauler should be directed to Tamaqua Transfer at (570) 668-4515.

If the following holidays fall on a normal trash pick-up day, the pick-up day will change to the next business day. Holidays that will affect pick-up are:

  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
  • New Years

Special concern items:  Tires, electronic items and construction material WILL NOT be collected. Items containing Freon must carry a stamp that the Freon was removed prior to collection or item WILL NOT be taken. 55 gallon drums are NOT permitted as trash cans and waste must not weigh in excess of 50 lbs. per bag/can.

Burning Trash in the Borough

  • All burning for the destruction, by burning of non–recyclable household waste, twigs and leaves shall take place between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at which time ALL fires must be extinguished.
  • The fire must be attended at all times by an adult individual.
  • The incinerator must have a solid or screen type lid in place while the fire is burning.
  • No hazardous or other objectionable conditions will be created by such burning.
  • No burning is allowed on any street or sidewalk with the Borough.
  • In NO CASE shall burning occur on Saturdays, Sundays or recognized Federal or State holidays.

Borough Ordinance CHAPTER 38:

GARBAGE, RUBBISH AND REFUSE
Sect. 38.3. Administration of refuse collection.
D. Ownership of refuse material set out for collection
shall remain vested in the owner until collected.
Therefore, any garbage bags or garbage material of an individual property owner that a bear or other animal may take to another property is STILL the property of the original owner until the refuse company collects it. The original owner is responsible for clean-up. If materials belonging to one owner are found on another property, the owner of those materials will be asked to remove them.

  • General Recycling

Weatherly Borough does not have a recycling program for plastics, newspapers, tin cans, glass bottles, etc.  These items must be placed in the trash.

  • Electronic Recycling

Electronic recycling events take place twice per year, in the spring and fall. Please check monthly newsletters for details of dates and recyclable items and any fees associated. Please refer to the following listing for current recyclable items and fees. This list may be updated from time to time.

Desktop/Laptop, Computers, Keyboards & Mice, Printers/Fax Machines, Cables & Cords, Cell Phone & Laptop batteries, Calculators/Adding Machines, UPS Battery Backups, Toner & Ink Cartridges, DVD Players & VCR’s, Gaming Systems, String Christmas lights, Microwaves & Small Appliances, Metal Items & Water Heaters, Exercise Equipment (Metal), Car Batteries (sealed lead acid), Bed Frames & Rain spouting, Audio Visual Equipment, Filing Cabinets, Telephones & Cell Phones (please remove batteries).
